FILM PHOTOGRAPHY

World History Final Project:

WAR PHOTOGRAPHY

A STUDY IN FILM

How has photographic documentation of war changed throughout History?

At the end of our sophomore year of high school, myself and two other classmates chose to trace the developments in technology and technique utilized by war photographers over time, recreating our own images from different eras using similar themes, tools, and editing methods. Ranging from the Civil War to the currently ongoing war in Afghanistan, the purpose of this project was to understand the roles photography played in documenting war to the public—not to attempt to imitate real scenes of war in any way. Through our research, we hope to share with you a piece of the impact and significance of war photographers on our understanding of historic events.
